Rejoice Hannibal fans! NBC announced today that it has renewed its freshman series for a 13 episode second season. The series was created by Bryan Fuller and based on the characters from the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris got off to a great start but over the weeks the numbers began to dwindle. To date, the show is averaging a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 4.7 million total viewers.
“We’re so proud of Bryan’s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke stated. “There are many great stories still to be told.”
Hannibal stars Hugh Dancy as expert criminal profiler Will Graham, who has a unique ability to peer into the mind of serial killers. Mads Mikkelsen stars as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist who is helping with the cases and, unbeknownst to Will, is a serial killer himself. Laurence Fishburne stars as Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI’s Behavorial Science Unit.
Due to recent tragedies in Newtown and Boston, NBC and show creator Bryan Fuller have decided to pull the fourth episode of Season 1 of Hannibal. The episode,, was about a woman (played by Molly Shannon) who brainwashed children to kill other children. Although the episode will NOT air in US markets, it will air overseas and savvy viewers may be able to find it online.
NBC will be posting a series of webisodes online that will deal primarily with the relationship between therapist Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Abigail Hobbs, daughter of serial killer Garrett Jacob Hobbs, and also between Hannibal and FBI profiler Will Graham. This will keep the viewers on track with the important developments between these main characters.
Below you will see the first webisode with an introduction from series creator Bryan Fuller.

As we reported earlier, Hannibal will take over the time slot that it’s failed series Do No Harm use to occupy.
NBC has finally announced the premiere date for its new and highly anticipated series Hannibal. The new series will premiere on April 4th in the 10pm time slot. If you remember, that slot on NBC has been a difficult one to keep filled. Several shows have been in that slot and have all been cancelled, Prime Suspect, Awake, The Firm and most recently Do No Harm.
The series stars Hugh Dancy as Will Graham, a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew.
Only time will tell how Hannibal will do in the 10pm slot.
