Well Downton Abbey fanatics, you won’t have to wait much longer! ITV has just released the official season 4 trailer for the popular series.
As you will see in the trailer, Mary is faced with a very important question. We see footage of the first African-American character on the show and what seems like more drama, tears and fighting! Just what we would expect from the fine folks at Downton.
The fourth season will premiere in the UK this fall and in the United States on January 5th.
Downton Abbey is fast becoming a show that every actor wants to be a part of. TVLine is reporting that Giamatti will play Harold Levinson, Cora’s (Elizabeth McGovern) brother in the Season 4 finale, alongside Shirley MacLaine who returns as Cora’s mother Martha. The character is described as a playboy and maverick.
TVLine’s report was confirmed by Masterpiece to the Huffington Post as well, “We’re excited that Paul Giamatti will be joining us on ‘Downton’ to play Cora’s brother Harold, the rather free-spirited uncle to Mary and Edith,” Gareth Neame, managing director of Carnival Films, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see him work alongside Shirley MacLaine, who are both sure to upset the Grantham’s apple cart in this year’s finale.”
With the third season in full swing , Downton Abbey has become a huge hit in the United States. The first episode from Season three drew a record 7.9 million viewers. Actress Shirley MacClaine is part of the new season of Downton Abbey and now comes word that actress Gwenyth Paltrow wants a role on the hit show.
Star Magazine is reporting that a rep for Paltrow said the she enjoyed working on Glee and wanted her team to get her on Downton Abbey. Upon hearing the news, show creator Julian Fellowes was excited and now is working out a cameo appearance for the actress.
Stay tuned as this story develops….
Dan Stevens who has portrayed Matthew Crawley since the first episode of the series, confirmed with the Telegraph, that he will not be returning for a fourth season. Stevens says in the interview, “It is a very monopolising job. So there is a strange sense of liberation at the same time as great sadness because I am very, very fond of the show and always will be.”
The third season of Downton Abbey has already aired in the UK and won’t air in the United States until January 6th and Stevens will be in the Christmas special.
The question we have here at the Pop Culture Principle, is how will his character exit the show? What are you thoughts?
